                     About me

I am a Makeup Artist based in Ayrshire but can travel throughout Scotland.

As you can see my love of makeup started young (me on the left). I assure you, however, that I can apply it a lot better than that now!!

My current focus as a link to my Freelance business is teaching Makeup workshops where you can learn about products, take away lots of tips and tricks on application and I open up the conversation on self esteem, compassion to yourself and individuality.

A bit of my background:

I started out as a Beauty Therapist and I qualified with an HND in 2004. I went on to work in a Salon for a while and then decided that it wasn't for me, that my passion was more the skincare and makeup side of things.

From 2006 to 2010 I worked for Clinique and Estee Lauder as a Consultant and an Account Manager. I have always enjoyed art so makeup was really an extension of that. Most of it was self taught but over the years I have done various courses in different kinds of makeup and working for these brands gave me a lot of hands on experience and taught me the value of great customer service.

In 2010 I decided to check living abroad off the bucket list and moved to Vancouver, Canada where I worked for Aveda for 3 and a half years as a Manager and Makeup Artist.

All the way along I've enjoyed doing freelance bridal and occasion makeup and in recent years I have done more editorial work which has helped me push the boundaries and get a bit more creative. I've worked at Fashion shows both here and in Canada. I also did a short film Wild Nothing that was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. I worked as a volunteer for makeup at the Commonwealth Games Open and Closing Ceremonies in 2014 which was an amazing experience and gave me the opportunity to work with Makeup Artist Ana Cruzalegui, I now assist her with bridal and editorial shoots. I have volunteered for 5+ years with the charity Look Good Feel Better in both Glasgow and Vancouver. It is a wonderful thing being able to make someone feel good and remind them of who they were before cancer treatment. A wee positive in the middle of the hardest time of their lives.

Since 2016 when I returned from living in Canada I have worked freelance. I work all over Scotland with my base still in Ayrshire. For the last few years I have worked for FINA Bridal which is a luxury bridal makeup and hair service started by Celebrity & Fashion Makeup Artist Ana Cruzalegui. Alongside this I have worked and assisted on tv campaigns for British Airways, People’s Postcode Lottery, STV Bringing In The Bells Hogmanay show plus work with the Scottish Baftas, Glasgow Film Festival and Macallan Whiskey.

I am excited to learn new things, I think there is always something to learn and I am very passionate about the job I do. I love to make people feel great about themselves, I think the media these days can project very much the wrong image and we should be should be coming at it with a focus on positive mental health.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my website. Please have a look at my work and get in touch, I would love to hear from you.

Alix :)
